Therapists for college students near Boulder, CO
Hi! I'm Annabelle. I work with adults presenting with ADHD and have a history of trauma. Many people who have not been diagnosed in childhood are now noticing how heavy daily life can be, holding everything together with exhaustion and lack of joy. Adults with ADHD have a complex relationship with themselves, the way they have been able to be highly functioning while feeling discombobulated, afraid of rejection, starting but never finishing projects, bored with daily life. I approach therapy from a somatic perspective with a focus on trauma and attachment, as well as a more directive perspective : helping you navigate your ADHD and finding a way to help your life fit you. This blend of approaches works well with individuals navigating daily life while feeling stuck in past experiences of trauma/ childhood wounds. I am ADHD-CCSP certified. I am also trained in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy for trauma, experiential work, and EMDR

I find that life transitions can be overwhelming and feel lonely. Life transitions can look like anything: leaving home, starting college, loosing your job, finding out you have a chronic illness, getting married, getting divorced, loosing a loved one, having a baby, or discovering you're an addict, to name a few. Sure there's books on a lot of different subjects and friends can be helpful. But everything has it's limits. Maybe nobody seems very willing to listen, maybe that's even just it, there's nobody to listen, or maybe you don't want to overwhelm others. I put on a lot of different hats: listener, advocate, leader, cheerleader, challenger, teacher, validator, coach, researcher, or surrogate. We do whatever it takes to get you to the point where you feel like you're done with therapy. Most often I find people feel that they are done when they feel at peace.
Your body holds the wisdom to heal. As a body-centered, mindfulness-based psychotherapist, I blend practices from the East and West, evidence-based interventions with spirituality, movement with introspection. I work with highly sensitive, empathic clients to help them build healthier relationships, let go of substances and patterns that no longer serve them, improve self-esteem, find freedom from anxiety and depression, and come home to their bodies. I believe in the healing power of embodiment to help my clients recover. In my work, there is always space for vulnerable moments, profound realizations, uninhibited emotions, and very often, deep belly laughs. As a fellow traveler along the path, I understand profound loss and trauma. With an extensive background in substance abuse and trauma treatment, I get that mental health challenges can take over your life. Using a holistic and tailored approach, I will work with you to treat the underlying causes of substance abuse, anxiety, depression, and other symptoms of trauma. As a body-centered psychotherapist, I take a “bottom-up” or “embodied” approach to trauma-focused modalities, including EMDR. I also offer Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy for additional support in treating treatment-resistant depression, PTSD, C-PTSD, and other trauma symptoms. If you want to break free from the symptoms of trauma, begin a healing journey, or simply improve your overall well being, I’d love to help you get there.

The residential addiction treatment program consists of men’s and women’s tracks. These tracks conducted separately, with men and women living and receiving treatment in separate facilities. This allows us to address the underlying issues that affect each differently that contribute to the disease of addiction. Mornings focus on group-based cognitive behavioral therapy, leveraging the outdoors as often as possible. Daily hikes along our “12 Step” Trail are normal, while afternoons are set aside for educational offerings. Individually, clients meet weekly with a primary therapist and a case manager. Additional services are available as well, such as specialty groups for 12 Step, Trauma, and Co-Occurring Disorders. Clients diagnosed with mental health disorders, such as anxiety, depression, bipolar, and other trauma-related responses, meet with appropriate staff. Deciding to seek therapy can be a hard step to take because it means facing your problems rather than running away from them. When we experience uncomfortable emotions, our instinct a lot of the time is to avoid it and convince ourselves (as well as others) that we're okay. This may lead to short-term relief, however, we often don't realize that it also leads to long-term growth of the issue. This is one way we end up in vicious cycles of depression, anxiety, and low self-esteem (which is difficult enough to deal with on top of college adjustments). My goal is to assist individuals with breaking this cycle by gaining new perspectives on their life situations and in turn empowering them to achieve their personal goals. If you're ready to take the first step toward a brighter future, I would be honored to work with you.
