I provide daytime virtual appointments and work with young adults who are struggling with anxiety and depression, and co-occurring, diagnoses. Most feel overwhelmed, stressed, or isolated. My goal is to welcome you to a warm, supportive space where you feel safe to be yourself and speak openly. Together, we’ll slow things down and take a look at what you’re going through. We'll build perspective, and identify manageable goals, and take steps towards meaningful changes that align with your values. My approach is collaborative, compassionate, and tailored to you. I draw from evidence-based practices to help you manage emotions, handle challenges, and be more confident in your daily life. My degree is from Northeastern University where I graduated with a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology and became Licensed in 1996. Most recently, I was the Director of Psychology for Wrentham Developmental Center and an Area Psychologist for the Department of Developmental Services. Previously, I had my own private practice where I facilitated numerous social groups, provided individual and family therapy, and served as a Consultant to Cranston ARC, and Bristol Community College. In joining Needham Psychotherapy Associates, I am returning to my passion for clinical work. My approach would be considered eclectic, involving systems work, motivational interviewing, narrative therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, positive behavioral supports, and psychodynamic or insight-oriented work. In my view, the modality of therapy is often determined by the issues that one presents with as well as the style and comfort level of both the therapist and the client. It is important to me that the process of therapy is collaborative, sometimes humorous, and that clients are empowered to make choices in the course of their treatment. Simultaneously, I think there are times when clients need to be challenged to make further growth and progress. I love stories and the stories of people’s lives. In therapy, my style would involve asking a lot of open-ended questions to learn more about your story and your journey. Therapy should involve clients feeling, safe, challenged, and learning strategies and approaches to handle your problems more effectively. In the end, ideally clients will feel better about themselves and their world. Most definitely, I believe that there are times that clients should laugh in therapy, as humor and laughing are an important part of healing. I love working with young adults and the new ways they have of looking at the world as well as helping them navigate their present challenges and future transitions.

My work is relationally based, and I additionally integrate the approaches of Somatic Experiencing (SE) and Internal Family Systems (IFS), which are both mind/body modalities. These approaches have been transformational for myself and many clients I have witnessed because they offer an orientation of radical openness and compassionate inquiry about all parts of your experience.

I believe the greatest gift a therapist can offer is full presence with a compassionate ear. Many of my clients have sought therapy because something that was working for them was no longer working, or they noticed patterns in their lives that they wanted to change. Many felt unseen, unheard, and stuck in relationships. Some noticed patterns of anxiety or anger impact their relationship with others or their work. Some were experiencing family estrangement, contemplating cutoff, or processing the loss of a loved one. Whatever it is that brings you to our therapy space, I want you to walk away from a session having felt that I was with you on the other side, to make sense of things when nothing was making sense. Give yourself permission to be here as you are. What we acknowledge and admit to another becomes more real, and you matter. In our therapy space, even if you take your shoes off at the door, you can bring your whole self. I work with clients whose journey to therapy has been filled with ingenious ways to make due with what they have. Many find a major life transition (relationship, career, moving, school) challenging their current tools. Using attachment-based, somatic, and mindfulness-based therapies, we learn to slow down--to feel and then deal. To see where we may be unskillfully expending resources and how to reclaim them. Using an integrated-brain approach that values insight but doesn't stop there, I equip clients with an understanding of themselves in both their verbal and somatic narrative. As a social work-trained therapist, I strive to ensure that our therapeutic relationship is a refuge from larger systemic harm and trauma. I invite you to bring with you your current resources, social location, and values that you have inherited from your family of origin, ancestors, and communities. Please feel free to contact me for a free 20 minute phone consultation to see if we would be a good fit together.
