Hi, I’m Lyndsey, a therapist, who works with students experiencing anxiety, stress and burnout, relationship struggles, identity questions, or just feeling stuck. College can be so overwhelming—balancing classes, friendships, family expectations, work, and figuring out who you are can feel heavy and defeating. I offer a nonjudgmental, collaborative space where you can explore what’s on your mind, develop healthy coping strategies, and reconnect with your sense of purpose. My approach is warm, down-to-earth, and grounded. I use a blend of talk therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Therapy (DBT), mindfulness and self compassion practices. Whether you're feeling lost, burnt out, or just need someone to talk to who gets it, I’m here to help you feel heard and supported. You don’t have to have it all figured out—let’s work on it together.

As a therapist my very first priority is to ensure a safe environment free from judgment and filled with positive regard. Together we can explore varying perspectives and possibilities throughout your life experiences and the thoughts, feelings, and behaviors attached to those experiences. I hope to empower you to engage with life intentionally and with meaning and to care for yourself along the way. Sessions are meant to be your time to invest in yourself, and to learn. In counseling I use a responsive approach, meaning, we will use pieces of different counseling theories that will best fit your goals and needs. The concepts that I use most include theories surrounding CBT (cognitive behavioral theory), systems theory, interpersonal relationship models, neuroplasticity, motivational interviewing, and narrative therapy. The space I cultivate is intended to be a laid back opportunity to find what works for you. With recognition that you know yourself and your experiences better than anyone else, that means you run the show at the end of the day. It is with this understanding that I mean to be an ally and resource on your path to knowledge and change.
About me: I am a licensed psychologist focusing on work with trauma/complex trauma, eating disorder and body image recovery, relationship concerns, LGBTQ+ and polyamory, depression, anxiety, and college-related concerns. I am Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) trained and offer this service virtually for clients as well as a registered yoga teacher and love incorporating yoga foundations into clinical and body work. As a queer, agnostic person looking to challenge diet culture/anti-fatness, racial discrimination, anti-queer and other justice issues, you'll see this perspective play out in our work together. I find working with those both with similar and different identities to be fulfilling and approach each person with curiosity and empowerment. I have a strong interest in and passion for helping individuals explore their intersecting identities and roles and the ways in which they move through and exist in the systems in place in the community and in the world. Education & Training: I am a licensed psychologist specializing in the treatment of complex/trauma, eating disorders and body image concerns, LGBTQ+/CNM concerns, religious abuse and deconstruction, and anxiety, depression, and stress. I am dual licensed in Colorado and North Carolina. I have worked in college counseling centers, working with college students like you, for over 8 years before entering private practice! Unique offerings for therapeutic support include Walk and Talk therapy (for in person clients) and EMDR therapy. -EMDR Training, The Road Less Traveled Counseling Center; EMDRIA-Approved Training Provider (2022) -Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology, Oklahoma State University, Program Accredited by the American Psychological Association (2021) -Doctoral Psychology Internship, Appalachian State University Counseling and Psychological Services, APA Accredited Doctoral Internship (2021) -M.S. in Counseling and Counselor Education, Indiana University Bloomington, APA Accredited Program (2017) -B.S. in Pre-Art Therapy and Psychology, University of Indianapolis (2015) Approach to Clinical Work My integrated and collaborative clinical approach focuses on building a safe and comfortable space in order to show up authentically, honestly, and relationally with ourselves and one another. I orient my work with focusing on individual, cultural, and trauma-informed perspectives, with a focus on social justice and a system-oriented perspective. I combine various empirically validated approaches based on need, concerns, and preference, from foundational humanistic and multicultural-feminist frameworks to interpersonal, internal family systems, and/or third-wave approaches (ACT, DBT, or CBT). I specialize in working with the young adult and/or college student population, but enjoy all ages! I enjoy utilizing humor, creative approaches to therapy, and aim to balance support and challenge for personal growth. Healing happens when we feel safe enough to show up exactly as we are. All parts of you are welcome here. I’m not here to change you or fix you. I don’t think you are “broken” or that there's anything "wrong" with you. Together we'll create an accepting + compassionate environment, with respect for your intuition + body's wisdom underlying all that we do. I’m trauma + social justice-informed and view therapy through an intersectional lens (mind, body, environment, culture). During our time together, we’ll likely look at environmental factors (interpersonal, economic, oppression) that create individual/collective stress and trauma. I value equity, consent and boundaries in the therapeutic relationship and strive to create a space that is safe, non-judgmental and accepting. My approach is collaborative + holistic, centering around values of empathy, connection and deep listening. I’m Internal Family Systems-informed and incorporate somatic + mindfulness-based approaches into sessions. I provide an Autism-affirming perspective in therapy and believe Autism is a genetically-based neurotype, not a medical disorder. "I understand being autistic to be a cultural identity and recognize autistic people as experts on their own culture." (quote from Trauma Geek). Please visit my website for more information. Warmly, River (they/she)

I am a PSYPACT certified licensed psychologist and can meet with clients in 42 states for teletherapy - As of December 2025, I will also be offering in-person appointments in Raleigh on Thursdays (9 am-2 pm) and Fridays (9 am-5 pm). In-network with Aetna and BCBS. You may be reaching out for support at this time because you’re feeling stuck. When meeting with my clients for the first time and discussing what brings them to therapy, most share that they have tried everything that they can think of to address their concern. Perhaps they’re used to being able to “figure it out” independently but the current issue feels insurmountable. My approach to therapy is walking alongside you as you explore different parts of yourself, better understand your thoughts and emotions, reflect on where long-standing patterns may have come from, and move towards actions that align with your values. While you are the expert of your own experience, you don’t have to go through this alone. I am a licensed psychologist who specializes in relationship concerns, anxiety, depression, disordered eating/body image, perfectionism, trauma and resilience with close attention to and incorporation of your intersecting identities. I have almost 10 years of experience providing counseling services to adults and young adults. Specifically, I was the embedded psychologist for the Emory School of Medicine, where I worked primarily with medical students. I have a deep understanding of the ways academic stress impacts young adults, particularly in their longing for a sense of control and the impact of work stressors on relationships. I use research supported approaches to address client concerns, while leaning into our therapeutic relationship by building a safe and collaborative environment. I strive to find balance between exploration and empowering you to leave each session with tangible skills and strategies that can help you meet your goals and maintain changes over time. It would be an honor for me to walk alongside you as we explore parts of yourself and trust that we can make meaningful changes together.
I work with adults and adolescents who are struggling with the challenges of daily life or who feel weighed down by issues of the past. My clients are often people who struggle with anxiety, depression, identity issues, grief, stress, or relationship issues. My ideal client is ready for change, or contemplating what the first steps of change look like. I practice exclusively through teletherapy sessions, and require clients to have reliable and consistent access to internet services. I offer a safe space for BIPOC, women, LGBTQIA+/trans/poly, neurodivergent, and other diverse communities. I am a very direct person, known for my honesty and “cut-to-the-chase” attitude. Over my years of practice, I have become known for my strength in work with teenagers and young adults, who have described me as “relatable” and “trusted.” I also enjoy helping adults work through life transitions and exploring issues of self identity and purpose. I believe strongly in the validation of clients’ feelings and experiences, to help remove stigma and shame. I believe that with support, clients can be empowered to make difficult decisions and take charge of their own growth.

Freedom from emotional hijack is found in noticing, naming, and knowing. This can be the gift of psychotherapy. Congratulations on looking for a therapist and trying to figure out what will be best for you! It can seem like it requires endurance, when all you’re trying to do is get your mental health needs met. The good news is there are lots and lots of great therapy practices! And a practice or a therapist that’s a great fit for one person, doesn’t mean that it is for you! All that matters is what works for you. Whether you feel nervous, doubtful, unsure, excited, and/or anything else, let’s chat, when/if you’re ready. Just because we talk, doesn’t mean you have to start therapy!
