I am a New York State licensed Psychotherapist experienced in working with a broad range of issues including depression, anxiety, loss and grief, LGBTQIA+ issues, family and relationship struggles, identity, complex life transitions, and trauma ranging from the personal to systemic. I am a graduate of Hunter College’s Silberman School of Social Work and completed training in working with Couples and Families through the Ackerman Institute for the Family and advanced post graduate training in Relational Therapy at the Stephen A. Mitchell Center for Relational Studies. I bring warmth, deep listening, honesty, cultural sensitivity and humility, and a spirit of collaboration, authenticity, and humor to my therapeutic work with adolescents, adults, couples, and families. I have worked extensively with adolescents and emergent adults and understand that these junctures typically involve a great deal of growth and change. This can in turn be exciting and wonderful, and also sometimes disorienting and overwhelming. I approach therapy as a collaborative exploration of an individual's lived experiences, the meanings they make out of these experiences, and the relationships they cultivate with self and others in the context of these experiences and meaning-making. In therapy together we slow these conscious and lesser conscious processes down to better understand what might be happening, where people may be stuck in self-limiting narratives or patterns, where resilience, joy, and strength can be recognized, and where growth and change are possible.
Hi, I’m Ryan! I'm a psychotherapist and academic. I’ve worked extensively with therapy clients who are actively pursuing highly specialized training and completing high-stakes projects (e.g., dissertations, books, films). I've also helped many people who feel uncomfortable in social situations and who struggle with procrastination and perfectionism.

My therapeutic style is warm, collaborative, and grounded in the belief that every person has unique strengths and inner resources to draw from. I strive to create a safe and supportive space where clients feel heard, valued, and empowered to explore their goals at their own pace. My approach is person-centered and culturally responsive, honoring each individual’s identity, background, and lived experiences. I draw on trauma-informed and evidence-based practices to support clients through life’s challenges, whether that means navigating transitions, managing stress, strengthening relationships, or building resilience. I see therapy as a partnership, where we work together to develop practical skills, deepen self-awareness, and foster greater balance and well-being. At the heart of my work is a commitment to helping clients feel more connected to themselves, to others, and to their communities. My goal is to walk alongside each person as they discover new ways of coping, healing, and growing.
YOUR FEELINGS MATTER. YOU MATTER. It’s time to learn new ways of thinking about and tackling challenging life moments to be happy. As a psychotherapist, school counselor, learning specialist, and executive function coach with over twenty years of experience, my eclectic background informs my holistic and neurodiversity-affirming approach to coaching and counseling. Sessions are individualized and collaborative, while providing a supportive and accepting environment for growth. I meet you where you are at now and help you progress toward your goals at a pace that is comfortable for you. My clinical and teaching experience includes working in schools and agency settings. For eight years, I worked as a learning specialist for students with disabilities at Columbia University in which I provided executive function coaching, academic counseling, and learning support. In my private practice, I continue to work with university and professional students, as well as adults in all stages of life. My clients feel safe, supported, and motivated by the work we do together, and I am committed to helping others recognize and cultivate their unique gifts.
With over 26 years of experience, I utilize verbal psychotherapy and art psychotherapy to help you find your emotional voice whether it be about a current situation that is causing you distress or something from your past or future. We hold on to thoughts, behaviors and feelings that seem too overwhelming to share with others. We fear vulnerability. We run from difficult feelings/thoughts. We feel ashamed of our emotional "baggage". Then, we try to hide under a mask because of shame, fear, and anxiety. But hiding in shame only makes us feel isolated, empty and experience self hatred. We become disconnected from our bodies. To promote healing and growth, we will sit through difficult emotions and thoughts until you have a better sense of yourself and self compassion. It is very important for us to create a trusting relationship where you can feel seen, heard and safe. I encourage you to express feelings, fears, conflicts, insecurities, memories and reconnect with your body. You will learn to take off the mask & find inner strengths to bring a sense of connection to yourself & others. We will accomplish insight, self-awareness & compassion, coping strategies, a sense of purpose & connection, and relaxation. I want to help you feel more connected to your life, to remember YOUR truth, dislodge old patterns & reconnect with joy.
Life can feel overwhelming these days, and meaningful relationships, joys and values can be hard to sustain. The coping patterns we adopt often get in the way of feeling better, and connected with others. My practice fosters an empathetic environment where clients are at ease exploring emotions and concerns. Collaboratively, we address issues such as anxiety, depression and self-esteem struggles, and tackle problems such as relationship difficulties, life transitions, loss and school-related stressors. Jointly, we will define concrete goals, develop real-life coping skills and become more aware of underlying barriers to well-being. I am an LCSW (NYU) with a psychodynamic approach. I also draw on techniques from mindfulness-based therapies and trauma-informed methodologies. A former art history professor and undergraduate advisor (B.A. & M.A., Williams; Ph.D. U.Chicago), I understand the particular challenges college students face. Often, the hardest step about therapy is the decision to begin. I welcome the opportunity to meet you and explore how I can be helpful to you.

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a private practice in midtown Manhattan. When I decided to go back to school for a master’s degree, I chose social work because I felt strongly about its foundational belief that focus should be on both a person and their environment. During graduate school at Fordham University I saw many appealing paths I could continue on after graduation. While both macro and micro levels of practice are extremely important, I felt best suited for work with individuals on a deeper level. I wanted to further my education and went on to complete the four-year postgraduate training program in Adult Psychoanalysis and Comprehensive Psychotherapy from The National Institute for the Psychotherapies. Prior to private practice I worked with a diverse population in various clinics throughout New York City. In addition to private practice I have been guest faculty at the Training Institute for Mental Health and taught a course on Eating Disorders. In March 2020, I completed a post master’s program in Spirituality and Social Work at New York University.
Therapy can deepen your capacity for love, trust, and connection — with yourself and with others. I’ve seen it ease depression, anxiety, and shame; strengthen self-esteem; and help people become more resilient during life’s ups and downs. Most of all, it can bring forward a truer, more authentic self. Therapy is a collaborative process. You speak, and I listen closely — for what’s said and what lies beneath the surface — helping you see what may be getting in the way of a more fulfilling life. As Carl Rogers wrote: “The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.” I’ve found that to be true. Patients find it helpful to explore childhood, memories that bubble up, dreams, feelings, fears, wishes — whatever arises. Our aim is an understanding of your inner world that leads to meaningful action & choice. With couples, I help you listen more clearly & break entrenched patterns. Everyone longs to be seen and heard & I'll help you arrive at that place. As a therapist and writer, I’m inspired to help each patient take hold of their narrative — understanding where they’ve come from & where they’d like to go. As we get to know one another, I tailor my style to your personality and needs. Your feedback is always encouraged. Email me to schedule a consultation & see if we’re a good fit. “Adulting” can feel overwhelming—especially when anxiety, relationship challenges, or major life transitions are in the mix. As a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, I specialize in supporting young adults, college students, and LGBTQ+ individuals who are facing these exact struggles. Whether you are feeling stuck, anxious, or unsure of your next steps, you are not alone—and you do not have to figure it out by yourself. My approach is collaborative and tailored to your unique needs. I do not believe in one-size-fits-all therapy or positioning myself as the expert with all the answers. Instead, I see our work together as a partnership—one where we explore your strengths, clarify your goals, and build a path toward the life you want to live. In our first few sessions, we will focus on building trust and identifying what you hope to gain from therapy. I offer a welcoming, non-judgmental space where you can show up exactly as you are. Together, we will create a personalized roadmap that honors your values, experiences, and aspirations. I am looking forward to meeting you!
Learning how to navigate life as a young adult is hard! You are trying to balance the demands of work or school, family, and friends, all while figuring out who you are and who you want to be. As a driven and successful individual, you may put a lot of pressure on yourself and feel constrained by your own expectations. This can lead to constant self-doubt and feeling like you're always reaching for an unattainable (or unrealistic) goal. You may be overextending yourself to others, and not focusing on yourself. Perhaps you have negative thought patterns or behaviors that are causing discomfort or you don't always understand your reactions. Virtual therapy can help. Let's work together to discover the barriers that are keeping you from finding balance in your life - taking care of yourself and setting boundaries is not selfish!
I provide both English and Mandarin virtual psychotherapy to individuals and families. I have more than 7 years of experience helping individuals with mental health challenges, including anxiety, depression, ADHD, cultural identity issues, and generational conflict. I am also equipped with the knowledge to work with individuals with special needs, such as autism and developmental disabilities.
