Therapists for college students near University of Pittsburgh
Hi, I’m Shannon Mick, NCC, LPC, founder of Finish Stronger Counseling. I provide compassionate virtual therapy to adults across Pennsylvania who are ready to overcome anxiety, trauma, and eating disorders—especially endurance runners and athletes who want to feel strong in both mind and body. As a semi-professional ultramarathoner and assistant running coach myself, I truly understand the unique mental challenges that come with the sport: DNFs, DNSs, injury recovery, training balance, body image, and the relentless drive to push your limits. My holistic, movement-informed approach blends evidence-based therapy with real-world strategies that honor the mind-body connection athletes live every day. Using CBT, DBT, and ACT, I help clients address root causes, build resilience, and develop the mindset tools they need to cross every finish line—on the trail and in life. Whether you’re navigating performance anxiety, rebuilding after a setback, or simply wanting to feel like yourself again, my goal is simple: help you finish stronger. I offer a free 10–15 minute phone consult so we can see if we’re the right fit. An email is okay, too. Let’s get started—your next strong chapter is waiting. Mindset and mental wellness coaching is another service that I provide to ultramarathon runners in the U.S.

I work with people who are interested in improving their relationships with one another. Therapy is a place where partners can learn how to disrupt old patterns and start experiencing the pleasure of interacting in new ways. The work involves talking, examining the obstacles to talking, and using what happens in sessions as a way to understand what goes on outside of therapy. It also involves bringing creativity to the problems at hand and trying things differently. I like to create a space with ample opportunity for collaboration as we address the issues that present. Most of all, I strive to provide a safe environment where each individual can explore anything about themselves in their relationships. If you're interested in enhancing the communication and understanding in your relationship, therapy may be right for you. I offer 50-minute and 75-minute sessions in-person and online. Therapy is a significant investment; if you're curious whether therapy could help, I encourage you to reach out to schedule a free phone or video consultation.
Do you experience racing thoughts, anxiety or depression? Are you feeling lonely, overwhelmed or unfulfilled? I have 22 years of experience helping students better manage stress, panic, relationship concerns, addiction, test anxiety and more. Using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Mindfulness-based approaches, we will work to unlock your inner self-compassion and reconnect with the person you value inside.

If you are wondering why you may be attracting the same type of partner or repeating the same types of losses in your relationships or friendships, then I am here to help you through it. Working through your attachment and unlearning some behaviors picked up in childhood can be done. Goals are meant to work in small attainable steps. While I am intuitive, I like to keep it real with you. What that means is that I will work with you in a direction that is suited to your needs. I work best with students who are motivated and thoughtful, but feel stuck—whether that’s struggling to focus, feeling overwhelmed by academic pressure, or wondering if ADHD, a learning difference, or anxiety might be part of the picture. I offer neuropsychological evaluations to help students understand how their brain works—clarifying strengths, challenges, and what may be getting in the way of learning or performance. These evaluations are often helpful for students seeking answers, clarity, or documentation for academic supports. I also provide CBT-based therapy, which focuses on practical tools to manage anxiety, stress, perfectionism, and unhelpful thinking patterns. Therapy is active and collaborative, and we work toward concrete changes that make daily life and school feel more manageable. If you’re looking for clearer answers about yourself and support that’s structured, practical, and grounded, I may be a good fit.

You may be functioning well on the outside while quietly feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or exhausted inside. Therapy can be a place to slow down, exhale, and begin to understand what’s really driving those patterns. I offer in-person and virtual sessions in a calm, inviting office where you can speak openly and feel genuinely heard. My style is relaxed and relational, and our work is intentional. We’ll start with what feels most present for you, and then gently move toward the deeper roots. Clients often share that they appreciate both the warmth of our conversations and the clarity that comes from having specific tools to navigate their challenges. Whether you’re navigating anxiety, the impacts of trauma, relationship concerns, or an eating disorder, our work together will be thoughtful, focused, and tailored to you. If you're looking for therapy that balances emotional depth with practical tools, I'm happy to connect and see if we're a good fit.
