Therapists for college students near 78712
Hello! I am a licensed clinical social worker who practiced in a college counseling setting for over 4 years and I have 15 years of counseling experience total. I continue to work with college students in my private practice and I enjoy working with people to better manage anxiety, depression, trauma, PTSD, OCD, grief, life transitions, relationship, concerns, and general stress. My practice is body positive and LGBTQ+, immigrant, and international student supportive and affirming. I aim to provide a safe and non-judgmental space for processing fears, thoughts, feelings, and beliefs. I use various types of therapy, including ACT, CBT, DBT skills, somatic therapy, schema therapy, ERPT, narrative therapy, and person centered therapy, but I tailor sessions to what works best for you. I also welcome your feedback in the process. I strongly encourage coming to therapy in the way that you are most comfortable - meaning, swear if you feel the need, don't apologize for eating in sessions if you are hungry, show up in your pajamas - whatever. As long as you are safe and comfortable and you are able to talk privately, I support it. I offer a free 15 minute consultation call to see if we are a good fit, because having a therapist you trust and match with is paramount. I offer virtual telehealth sessions on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. I offer in person sessions in Kingwood, Texas on Wednesdays. Please feel free to reach out to me if you'd like to connect and I wish you the best in your therapist search!
At Wilson Counseling, we believe healing begins with connection. Our team provides a compassionate space where individuals, couples, and families can feel heard, understood, and supported. We work collaboratively with clients to build resilience, explore personal growth, and move toward meaningful change.
You feel like anxiety has crept into all areas of your life. You avoid decisions or situations that feel overwhelming, and instead turn to any distraction (mindless eating, social media, drinking, etc.) you can find to avoid the shame and guilt of not moving forward. Maybe you're struggling with body image and wonder if you're relationship with food and exercise is normal. Your fear of failure keeps you stuck in your personal and professional life, and in relationships. I work with young adults who feel trapped by anxiety and their fear of failure, find freedom in their relationships, academic and career life and from negative body image. I believe that therapy can create long-lasting, meaningful change in this pivotal point in life.
If you’re battling trauma, addiction, an eating disorder, or just feeling lost- I know how it feels to be told that your issues are “too complex” or that you’re just “too broken” to fix. I’ve worked with so many people who have been disappointed by therapy in the past, people who felt unheard, misunderstood, or let down by unprofessional providers. I get it, and I’m here to tell you that this time can be different. When we work together, we’re not just going through the motions. We’re diving into the heart of what’s holding you back, together. I’ve helped countless clients, just like you, break free from the cycles of pain, addiction, disordered eating and toxic habits. Many of them are now living free, healed, and empowered lives. You can be one of them!
I’m an LPC with a Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Northwestern University and 2 years of clinical experience in both nonprofit and private practice settings. I work with individuals and couples navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, ADHD, borderline personality disorder (BPD), bipolar disorder, relationship challenges, and life transitions. Many of my clients come to therapy feeling stuck in patterns that are hard to change on their own, overwhelmed by emotions, or unsure how to move forward in relationships or in life. My approach is eclectic and personalized, drawing from CBT, DBT, humanistic, gestalt, existential, and narrative therapy. I believe in unconditional positive regard, autonomy, and transparency—clients are the experts of their own lives, and my role is to help guide and support meaningful, lasting change in a way that fits who they are. In our first session, we complete a biopsychosocial assessment, talk through your goals, and make space for any questions you have about therapy. From there, we collaborate on a plan that feels comfortable and supportive, gradually exploring your history and patterns while building toward practical, forward-focused growth.
Navigating college, work, social activities and requests, relationships, family needs, and more is HARD! These things and so much more face college students every day. I have been working with college students for years and understand that what others call the "best time of my life", might be the hardest time of your life. My approach to therapy includes not just giving you ideas for coping with whatever you are facing, but also understanding how life got to be this way, and making a plan to help you thrive and not just survive. I take most major insurance plans, and am willing to work on a sliding scale for those who need to pay privately. I look forward to speaking with you.
In a few weeks, you could be unstuck from what’s holding you back. Let’s get started. If you’ve never been in therapy, I’ll make this easy. If you're coming back, I’ll honor what you already know. We’ll get to know each other and understand what you'd like to change. During our sessions, you will always be the expert in how your life works, and I’ll share with you a research-based approach to creating mental health. We'll work toward goals as a team, in a process that fits your unique background (e.g., race, ethnicity, gender, sex, sexual orientation identity, religious affiliation); respecting your values is important to me. I use treatments that we know work. These therapies not only help you overcome problems you’re experiencing right now, but I’ll teach you skills to resolve future problem that might come your way, too. While handling emotions in a new way might feel strange, I’ll be there to walk you through the process. I completed a Ph.D. in counseling psychology at the University of Utah, and fellowship in trauma psychology at the South Texas VA. I live in San Antonio, Texas, where I am a professor at the University of Texas School of Medicine. In my free time, I love fitness and exploring small Texas towns. I earned a Master of Science in Nursing degree specializing in Psychiatry from The University of Texas at Arlington. I am proud to say I am a Board-Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. I am a true believer that not one of my fellow humans is immune to stress, anxiety, and feelings of sadness at some point in their life. We all find ourselves feeling vulnerable at times. It is completely normal to question why we feel the emotions that we do, why we seem to fall apart at times, and better yet, how we can get through it all in one beautiful piece. I think the first step to meaningful recovery from anxiety, depression, complex mental illness, and/or substance use is to reach out and ask for help. It is a difficult, but very brave action. I am not one to judge, look down on, question your past experiences, or current situation. I am very good at rationally breaking down a situation and I can offer practical advice and medication suggestions depending on your goal in mind. While working in healthcare for the past 25 years, I have experienced the value of human connection between caregiver and patient in various roles and settings. Every individual I have provided care for has their own story, a unique set of experiences that has shaped them. Understanding these individual differences helps establish individual plans of care. Upon establishing a therapeutic relationship with my clients, I strive to learn their stories and help them overcome their struggles. I aim to help clients find meaning and purpose, improve their quality of life, and achieve contentment. As a psychiatric nurse practitioner, I can prescribe medications and provide talk therapy to help treat psychiatric conditions such as depression, anxiety, panic attacks, mood disorders, bipolar disorders, personality disorders, PTSD, sleep disorders, and psychotic disorders. I have named my clinic after “eudaimonia,” which means ‘good spirit’ and is translated from Greek simply as ‘happiness.’ Eudaimonia is described as the condition of human flourishing, and this philosophy of finding meaning and purpose guides the care provided at Eudaimonia Psychiatric Mental Health Clinic.
