Therapists for college students near Pittsburgh, PA
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) providing therapy in a supportive and queer-friendly environment. I specialize in work with clients with prenatal and postpartum depression, grief, life changes, mood disorders, and substance use. I have professional experience, prior to private practice, working with young adults on an inpatient psychiatric unit and ante/postpartum parents in a hospital setting. My approach is collaborative and compassionate, drawing on mindfulness, humor, the mind-body connection, and elements of CBT and DBT, to help clients build insight and tools for their every day lives. The therapist-client relationship is an important aspect of the therapeutic dynamic in my work and I want to encourage an environment where a patient is able to speak openly and freely.
Iām a health psychologist who helps people break the cycle between life stress and physical health problems. Stress, burnout, and emotional strain can lead to poor sleep, weight gain, high blood pressure, and difficulty managing conditions like diabetes or chronic illness. At the same time, health issues can affect your mood, relationships, motivation, and daily habits. I use evidence-based approaches ā including CBT, ACT, and motivational interviewing ā to help people shift unhelpful thought patterns, manage emotions, and make sustainable changes in how they care for themselves. Whether you're navigating a new diagnosis or struggling to stick with a health plan, I work collaboratively to create a personalized strategy that fits your real life. My goal is to help patients feel more in control of their health and well-being ā not just physically, but emotionally and behaviorally.
When people are experiencing stress, unhappiness, and conflict they often feel like there is no hope. I help individuals work on identifying and processing, triggers, coping with their pain, and moving forward to reach their life goals. I help children, adults, and families focus on their strengths to be able to live their best lives. Individuals may need a variety of ways to achieve this. Treatment approaches I focus on include Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Trauma Focused CBT, EMDR, Trauma Art Narrative Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, and Behavioral Therapy. I am gaining education in Play Therapy and hope to be able to provide that service to individuals soon. My education background includes a M.Ed. in Counseling from Penn State University, an MA in Sociology from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and a BA in Sociology from Berea College. I have been working in the mental health field in various capacities since 2000. I look forward to helping you in overcoming your challenges and moving forward in your life. Hi, I'm Matt Sosnowsky, a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) based in Center City Philadelphia. I work with adults in their 20s, 30s, and 40s ā including a lot of people who are navigating the transition from college into "real life," or who are a few years in and finding that things feel harder than they expected. My clients are often high-functioning: they're doing well by most measures, but something underneath is off ā anxiety that won't quit, a low-grade depression they can't shake, relationships that aren't working, or a nagging sense that they're not living the life they actually want. That's exactly the kind of work I find most meaningful. I'm particularly interested in men's mental health, and I work with a lot of guys who have never tried therapy before and aren't sure what to expect. My approach tends to be direct, collaborative, and grounded ā less abstract exploration, more working through what's actually going on and figuring out what to do about it. Sessions are available in-person near Rittenhouse Square and via telehealth across PA, NJ, MD, VA, and DC. I'm an out-of-network provider, and I'm happy to help you understand what that means for your insurance.

Hi and welcome! My name is Rhonda Matlack and I have been a Licensed Counselor since 1998. Counseling historically has been something that society has been ashamed of hence many people have suffered needlessly due to lack of support. I'm here to tell you that seeking support and moving toward emotional wellness is deserving of every individual from any walk of life. It is my philosophy that those who reach out for heIp, those that take the risk to be better, those that face their fears will have a sustainable life pattern of coping that leads to wellness. We are all made unique, each one of us is made to serve and benefit in this life with a purpose. Last, I believe healthcare should be made affordable to all, therefore I have a very low sliding scale to offer folks. Get in touch to learn more.

Valerie believes that everyone should be given an opportunity and have someone listen to them regardless of age, race, status, circumstances, etc. This sets her apart from others because just simply listening and caring, can make someone feel validated and respected. This approach completely changes oneās day or perspective and that means the world to Valerie. We all struggle from time to time, whether it be feeling anxious or depressed, struggling with core issues, and traumas. Therapy should be a safe space to explore these issues and learn more about ourselves in the process. As a therapist Valerie focus on individuals, families, and child/adolescent therapy. Together we can explore core issues of trauma, mood disorders, suicidality, depression, anxiety, negative behaviors, addictive behaviors, grief and loss, stage of life change, emotional regulation, co-parenting, attachment, family structure, and other life transitions.

Everyone has things in life they want or need to do. As an occupational therapist, I believe that satisfaction stems from engaging in activities that align with one's values. Therefore, my work focuses on guiding individuals to engage in occupations they find meaningful; These could include adopting healthier lifestyle habits, enhancing organization skills, excelling in academic or professional settings, building social connections, managing stress, and more. Through a collaborative and conversation-based approach, I work with clients to identify goals, harness inner strengths, and overcome obstacles to making meaningful change. I work with individuals seeking support in areas such as attention, motivation, sensory processing, relationship building, and time management. While I work with people of all ages, I have a particular passion for supporting college students and young professionals as they navigate the complexities of adulthood and discover their unique paths to fulfillment. My practice is guided by my doctoral work on motivation and resiliency and prioritizes trauma processing to facilitate healing & engagement. I strive to create a warm environment where clients feel accepted and understood. Wherever youāre at on your journey, it would be my honor to help you to discover greater meaning and satisfaction in your life.

The transition from high school to whatever lies beyond it for you can be challenging. Suddenly, the whole world is in front of you and there is no set "map" for what is next. You can choose college, or a career. You can stay in your home town or move far away. You have increased opportunities to explore your own identity, make choices about romantic partnerships, and consider whether you'd like to start your own family some day. Your friends' lives are changing too; some will remain in your life and you'll grow apart from others. Your relationship with your family is also changing-- both in ways that feel helpful and ways that feel hard or sad. There are so many new decisions to make, people to meet, places to explore. For some young adults, these changes feel exciting. Others feel overwhelmed and even paralyzed, frozen, by all of these changes at once. Often, there are a mix of emotions present. As we adjust to the demands of a new job or a difficult college class, or living away from our families for the first time, we may notice increased stress or big emotions that feel difficult to manage. Times of transition can also stir up past wounds such as memories of difficult or traumatic events or tense relationships with loved ones. We may find ourselves experiencing increased symptoms of worry, intense sadness, decreased motivation, conflict with other people, or intrusive thoughts and memories that affect our ability to sleep or concentrate. Some of us may try to cope by using alcohol or other substances, and we may start to wonder if this is really as helpful as we once thought it was. Young adulthood can be so many things, both wonderful and challenging. Sometimes, therapy can be a helpful way to sort it all out or heal from difficult events that continue to make daily life difficult. I enjoy working with young adults as they navigate this unique season of life, and would be honored to walk alongside you in this work. I believe you are incredibly resilient, meaning you are capable of getting through hard things. My approach is to work as a team with you to identify the strengths you already have, discuss your goals, and determine which strategies might be most helpful to help you reach those goals. I also understand the importance of finding the right match when you are looking for a therapist. Feel free to visit my website to schedule a free 15 minute consultation and we can chat to see if we are a good fit. I accept multiple insurance plans, and can offer both in-person and telehealth therapy. www.quietudetherapy.com
